About the Centre

Fuse is one of five UKCR Public Health Research Centres of Excellence. Fuse is a ‘virtual’ research centre, with staff and students based at the five North East universities.

Fuse is directed by Martin White, professor of public health at Newcastle University. David Hunter, professor of health policy and management at Durham University, is deputy director. The day-to-day work of Fuse is managed by a management group, with associate directors at each of the five universities. Strategic direction is overseen by a strategy board, which includes five independent scientific and policy advisors and is independently chaired by Professor Stephen Platt.

Fuse has a number of other committees and groups, which help manage our business. These include a Capacity Building Committee, a Public Involvement and Engagement Committee, a Communications Group, a Knowledge Exchange Group, and groups for our staff and students.

Fuse employs academic staff across the five universities, as well as a support team including a Centre Administrator, Communications Officer and Knowledge Exchange Manager. We also employ research staff, supported by research grant income, who are based at all five universities. In addition, Fuse has many Associate Members across the universities and policy and practice partner organisations in the North East. You can find out about all of our staff and students on our People page, where you will also find an organisational chart. You will also find a link there to vacancies in Fuse.
