Health improvement

Overview

Health improvement research broadly focuses on generating evidence to support translational impact. This includes research on defining and understanding public health problems, as well as developing and evaluating interventions, framed by a staged approach to intervention development and evaluation using the MRC framework for development and evaluation of complex interventions.

Our main themes focus on theoretically driven behaviour change among the public, patients and professionals, and reducing inequalities in health and their impact. Within these themes, we include work on topics of public health importance in the UK, including healthy development and ageing, obesity and chronic diseases, and their risk factors, all of which address the main priorities of the 25 year North East Public Health strategy Better Health, Fairer Health.
