Vacancy: Research Associate/Senior Research Associate

An opening exists for a post-doctoral researcher to work within the Tobacco and Alcohol Research group at UCL as part of a 5-year programme grant funded by Cancer Research UK. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to a range of projects being undertaken and planned by the team but s/he will work principally across two research themes: 1) providing insights into population-wide influences on smoking and smoking cessation by analysis of the Smoking and Alcohol Toolkit Study and 2) advancing the scientific foundation, and furthering the development of, potentially wide-reach digital technologies. The candidate will be expected to develop a sound understanding of behaviour change theory and methods, issues of replicability in science, and state-of-the-art approaches to the development and evaluation of digital interventions. A successful candidate will also have opportunities to pursue independent areas of interest related to behaviour change. The appointment will be available from 1st April 2017 and is funded until end of March 2022 in the first instance.

The candidate should be an experienced researcher with, or about to complete, a PhD related to Psychology, Epidemiology, Behavioural Sciences or Public Health or equivalent research experience. Further key requirements are experience of working with large and complex data sets and ability to conduct a wide range of statistical analyses including multiple logistic regression and multi-level analysis. A track record of publications in high quality journals is also an essential requirement. Appointment at Grade 8 is dependent upon candidates having a track record of research funding from external funding bodies, experience of i) leading or supporting less experienced researchers or students, ii) peer review for journals or grant awarding bodies, iii) leading and managing researchers on a major research study.
