This network event is focused on the theme of ‘Children and Young People’ through a lens of health and social inequalities, and will bring together a community of individuals, from both academia and practice, with a common interest in health and social inequality from across the north of England. The meeting will focus on the second recommendation in the Due North report (Whitehead, 2014) around healthy development for children and young people, and will facilitate translational research into policy and practice. It will also develop connections across policy and practice with The Great North Children’s Research Community which aims to promote and deliver the best health outcomes for children and young people across the region.

Confirmed speakers are Martin Lennon, Senior Policy and Public Affairs Analyst, Children's Commissioner's Office and David Taylor-Robinson, Professor of Public Health and Policy, Honorary Consultant in Child Public Health, University of Liverpool. In addition there will also be a mixed panel of academics and practitioners taking questions and breakaway workshop sessions on the themes of: ‘Parental substance use and children’,  ‘Early Life commissioning – ‘Giving children the Best start’ and ‘Childhood Obesity’.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
